Q. 1 Differentiate between speech and language. Describe all the components of language individually with examples. How do they collectively involve in language development?

Ans:
To understand your child’s speech and language development, it may help to better understand what’s involved and the differences between the two. Language is the set of rules, shared by the individuals who are communicating, that allows them to exchange those thoughts, ideas or emotions in order to express and receive information in a meaningful way. Language can include spoken word but may also be expressed through writing, signing or gestures. Speech is the verbal expression of language and consists of voice and articulation Delays in speech and language may not seem easy to distinguish as they often overlap. For instance, a child experiencing troubles with language may be able to pronounce words but may struggle putting more than two words together. On the other hand, a child experiencing challenges with speech may be difficult to understand but he may be able to use words and phrases to express ideas. It could also be that your child has trouble comprehending and following directions but speaks well.

Q. 1 Give a detailed account on the earlier concepts about mental retardation. Compare it with the current status of mentally retarded people.
Ans:
History on the care of mentally retarded people in society in which he stated that professionals showed no interest in mental retardation until the early 1800s. The current article contains the first English translation of a 1614 text by a physician, Reveals a coherent attempt to deal with the concept of mental retardation from the viewpoint of diagnosis, prognosis, and cure.

Throughout history, mentally retarded children have been abused and neglected by societies that did not understand these disabilities. But now there are many residential treatment options available for children with special needs that foster the abilities they do have and help to teach the abilities they do not have.

Benefits:

While many mentally retarded children are able to function at home or in school with added attention, many are severely disabled to the point that they are unable to care for personal hygiene or even feed themselves. Residential treatment programs provide the all-day care that most parents would be unable to fulfill.

Types:

Like other residential treatment programs for the mentally ill, facilities for mentally retarded children vary according to the needs of the child. There are many degrees of mental retardation, including different disorders and different spectrums, and many programs cater to specific needs in order to provide optimal care.
